10 Great Fantasy Anime That Will Never Get Another Season, P01

Okay, Fellow Anime Enthusiasts

We've all been there, haven't we? You discover a fantastic fantasy anime, get completely sucked into its world, fall in love with the characters, and then... silence. The season ends on a cliffhanger, or with so much story left untold, and years go by with no news of a continuation. It's a special kind of heartbreak.

So, let's pour one out for those brilliant gems that graced our screens and then vanished, leaving us forever wondering "what if?" Here are 10 great fantasy anime that, for various reasons, we'll probably never see another season of. Get your tissues ready

10 Great Fantasy Anime That Will Never Get Another Season

1. No Game No Life

Released: April 2014 – June 2014

Short Description: Sora and Shiro are shut-in NEET gamer siblings, legendary as the undefeated duo "Blank." They're whisked away to Disboard, a world where all conflict is resolved through games. Their goal? To unite the 16 races, defeat the One True God, and become gods themselves.

Why We'll Likely Never See More: This is the poster child for "anime that desperately needs a Season 2 but won't get it." Despite a successful movie (No Game No Life: Zero) adapting a prequel arc, and the light novels still ongoing, Studio Madhouse is notoriously stingy with sequels for many of its beloved properties. Years have passed, and while hope flickers, it's looking increasingly dim.

2. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash (Hai to Gensou no Grimgar)

Released: January 2016 – March 2016

Short Description: A group of strangers awakens in a fantasy world with no memories of their past, only their names. They must band together, learn skills, and fight to survive in a harsh, unforgiving reality where even a single goblin can be a lethal threat. It’s a gritty, character-driven take on the isekai genre.

Why We'll Likely Never See More: Grimgar was praised for its stunning watercolor art style, realistic portrayal of struggle, and deep character development. However, it was a slow burn, and while critically appreciated, it didn't seem to set the sales charts on fire. The light novels continue, but the anime only adapted a small portion, leaving many fans yearning for more of its unique, melancholic atmosphere.

3. Record of Grancrest War (Grancrest Senki)

Released: January 2018 – June 2018

Short Description: In a world plagued by "Chaos," which spawns monsters and disasters, those with "Crests" (magical symbols) can fight it. Lone mage Siluca Meletes despises feudal lords who fight amongst themselves instead of uniting against Chaos. She forms a pact with wandering knight Theo Cornaro to change the world.

Why We'll Likely Never See More: This anime actually did something rare: it adapted the entire light novel series it was based on within its 24-episode run. While this means we got a complete story, it also inherently means there's no source material left for a direct continuation. It's a satisfying, if sometimes rushed, conclusion.

4. Yona of the Dawn (Akatsuki no Yona)

Released: October 2014 – March 2015

Short Description: Princess Yona lives a sheltered life until a coup forces her to flee her castle. With her loyal bodyguard Hak, she embarks on a journey to find the legendary four dragon warriors to reclaim her kingdom and protect her people.

Why We'll Likely Never See More: This one hurts. Yona of the Dawn is beloved for its strong female lead, compelling characters, and engaging plot. The manga is ongoing and incredibly popular. However, the anime only covered the initial arcs. Despite consistent fan demand and decent OVA releases, Studio Pierrot hasn't announced a new season in years, likely due to Blu-ray sales in Japan not meeting the threshold for a sequel at the time.

5. Alderamin on the Sky (Nejimaki Seirei Senki: Tenkyou no Alderamin)

Released: July 2016 – September 2016

Short Description: Ikta Solork is a lazy, womanizing but brilliant military strategist in the Katjvarna Empire. He and his childhood friend Yatorishino Igsem get caught up in a war, and Ikta's genius for tactics becomes crucial, despite his aversion to conflict.

Why We'll Likely Never See More: Another Madhouse production, Alderamin adapted the light novels up to a significant turning point, ending on a brutal cliffhanger that left viewers desperate for more. The light novel series is complete, offering plenty of material. However, like many fantastic one-season wonders, it seems it didn't generate enough commercial success in Japan for a follow-up.

6. Grimoire of Zero (Zero kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho)

Released: April 2017 – June 2017

Short Description: In a world where witches and sorcery are feared, a half-man, half-beast mercenary (called a "beastfallen") encounters a powerful witch named Zero. She hires him as a bodyguard on her quest to find a stolen magical tome, "The Grimoire of Zero," which could destroy the world.

Why We'll Likely Never See More: The anime covered the main conflict of the original light novel series. While there are spin-offs and further stories in the same universe, the core narrative of Zero and Mercenary's quest for the grimoire felt largely concluded. It was a charming adventure, but likely served its purpose as a promotion for the source material.

7. Chaika - The Coffin Princess (Hitsugi no Chaika)

Released: S1: April 2014 – June 2014; S2 (Avenging Battle): October 2014 – December 2014

Short Description: Toru Acura is a former saboteur from the war, now unemployed and listless. He meets Chaika Trabant, a white-haired sorceress carrying a coffin, who is on a quest to gather the scattered remains of her father, the tyrannical Emperor Gaz.

Why We'll Likely Never See More: Similar to Grancrest War, Chaika's two seasons (often viewed as one continuous story) adapted the entirety of its light novel source material. It provided a definitive beginning, middle, and end to Chaika's quest. So, while we loved the adventure, there's simply no more story to tell for this particular arc.

8. Claymore

Released: April 2007 – September 2007

Short Description: In a medieval world plagued by "Yoma" (man-eating demons), an enigmatic organization creates female warriors known as "Claymores." These silver-eyed witches are half-human, half-Yoma, and wield giant swords to hunt down the monsters, though they are often feared and ostracized by humanity.

Why We'll Likely Never See More: The Claymore anime was a fantastic dark fantasy, but it caught up with the manga and then diverged into an anime-original ending around episode 20. The manga continued for much longer with significant plot developments and a different conclusion. For a continuation, they'd need to either reboot or retcon the ending, which is rare for an anime this old.

9. Maoyu: Archenemy & Hero (Maoyuu Maou Yuusha) Released: January 2013 – March 2013

Short Description: The Hero arrives at the Demon King's castle, ready for a final battle, only to find the Demon King is actually a Queen who seeks his help. She proposes an alliance to end the war not through fighting, but through introducing advanced agriculture, economics, and education to both human and demon realms.

Why We'll Likely Never See More: This intelligent and unique fantasy focused on societal change and economics rather than just battles. While it adapted a good chunk of the light novels, it didn't cover everything. The light novels themselves are complete. It was a niche hit, and years later, the momentum for a sequel seems to have faded completely.

10. Rage of Bahamut: Genesis (Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis) Released: October 2014 – December 2014

Short Description: In the magical world of Mistarcia, humans, gods, and demons coexist. Bounty hunter Favaro Leone's carefree life is upended when he meets Amira, a mysterious woman with one wing who holds half of the key to reviving the catastrophic dragon Bahamut.

Why We'll Likely Never See More: Genesis was a swashbuckling, high-octane fantasy adventure that was incredibly well-received. It did get a sequel series, Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul, set 10 years later, which focused on different characters primarily,

though Favaro and Kaisar returned. While Virgin Soul wrapped up its own story, the original Genesis narrative felt complete, and the focus of CygamesPictures seems to have shifted to other projects based on their game properties. A direct "Season 3" following Favaro's original style adventures seems unlikely.

It's always a bittersweet feeling to revisit these shows. We cherish the memories, but a part of us will always ache for what could have been. What fantasy anime do you wish would get another season, even if you know it's a long shot? Share your thoughts in the comments below,
